More importantly I need to find out what channel the "in range" networks are using so I can pick a channel for my network that will have less interference. I know that there are some manufacturers that include this as part of the setup software, but I dont want to run the wizard again when my network is already setup.
Need a free utility for SSID survey to find out what wireless networks are in range?
Try network stumbler, its free and it will give you a lot of information even S/N ratios etc for all AP's within "view".
